How to read the family lists

1. Family names are in CAPITAL letters.
2. “Maiden” (unmarried) names are the ones listed. So Hinda ZÜLZ was the name she was born with, but she would have been known (after her marriage) as Hinda LOWENSTEIN.
3. Each level of indentation is one generation. So Seligman LOWENSTEIN & Hinda ZÜLZ are the parents, Pinkus is their child, as are Salomon, Hanna, and Löbel. Marcus is their grandson, and Julius their great-grandson.
4. People at the same level of indentation are siblings, unless they are separated by someone from an older generation. So Pinkus, Salomon, Hanna, and Löbel (at the bottom) are all siblings. Marcus and Samuel are brothers. Emil, Oscar and Adele are siblings, but NOT with Jenny, Doris, and Mary, since they are separated by Siegmund. (Emil, Oscar and Adele are cousins of Jenny, Doris, and Mary. So are Alice and Sara).
5. After a person’s name, their spouse is listed, i.e. Hinda ZULZ or Barbara JONAS
6. People who were married more than once have a separate line for each spouse, and are marked with an “*”. So Hanna LOWENSTEIN (near the bottom) was married twice, once to Abraham ADLER (with whom she had the son Hermann) and a second marriage to Jacob BLOCH (with whom she had the son Moses.
